About the final term: NO, you do not have to write a paper, but we expect a report.
When needed, it is advised (for the sake of clarity) to have a short introduction to explain the implementation choices (for example about the general decisions, not relevant to particular parts of the code). Also considering that you already ave to clearly specify how to execute the tests (at least as list of instructions noting the expected behaviour).
