Segregation: questions

Segregation: questions

Dear professor,

I started working on the final project on network analysis (Cultural dissemination and self segregation in social communities) and I have two questions:

  1. For a given graph of |N| nodes and |V| edges, I'm dealing with the issue of finding out the number of inhabitants of the network. It is my belief that the probability "p" expresses exactly |N|/#inhabitants_of_the_region_covered_by_the_network, hence I have to tune it, during the experiments phase. Am I correct?
  2. As long as the definitions of "q" and of "sigma_k" are concerned, is it right to consider "sigma_k(i)" as the measure of how much the k-th cultural trait if important for the i-th individual in a range from 0 to q-1? I find the sentence "[...] the q parameter defines how many different cultures
are present in the population, for each trait." quite confusing...

Thanks and greetings,

Gemma Martini
